Online Journalism 101- Post #1: What defines news in the online environment?

'NEWS' is not a new word to the society- by least; it should not be a new word to you. Where do we get news from? NEWSPAPER. But... wait, its year 2017 and we have something called internet. The internet (or cyberspace) is free for anyone to use which made us all an author and this allows massive dissemination of information. With or without verification, accountability and independence, everyone can write about anything and everything, whether it is a praise or pure condemnation.  Back then when we only rely on printed medium (eg: newspaper) to retrieve news, no reader will ever doubt the reliability of the news story that they have just read, or at least the word 'fake news' never crosses their minds. Why? Because the news in newspapers is written by true journalists and filtered by editors.
