REVIEW: Shu Uemura blanc:chroma brightening UV cushion foundation
So, this is my first make-up product review! YEAPS! Pardon me if it is not that good, I'll improve!
Shu Uemura has been popular with their flashy pop-colored falsies & cleansing oils but today I'll be talking about their blanc:chroma cushion foundation. Blanc:chroma sounds classy but I think it has something to do with brightening. And yes, I am using their cleansing oils too and I will be doing a review on this soon!
Let's start!
This is my very first cushion foundation as I do not make-up a lot. I did some research before buying this and made a conclusion that this is better than Innisfree, YSL, or the BB cushion pioneer: Laneige. I HAVE NOT TRIED OTHERS but here's my experience for Shu Uemura's:
Coverage : SHEER but good enough to cover small imperfections (can't cover big red pimples) -Buildable.
Brightening : YES- but not as bright as other brands that make your face looks like a white paper
Moisture level : LOW 😞
Application : EASY- just a light press into the cushion is enough to cover one side of my cheek
Feeling : A tiny little bit of stickiness, no cooling effect or whatsoever. Just pure radiance
Smell : SUNSCREEN. Mild sunscreen. To me it's OK as long as it is not heavily perfumed
Price tag : RM190 for case, puff & foundation (that's around ~S$55?, depends on the exchange rate)
Water-proof :weak/ tear-proof/ water-resistant - Tear-proof as in you won't have a line with another tone on your face after your tears roll down. Pat, don't rub. But why cry, sweetie? Don't let something unhappy ruin your HD under-eye concealer, flawless foundation, cat- winged eyeliner and majestic lashes.
RADIANCE. Brightens up my complexion from the first layer and it STAYS till I remove my make-up. Its still good EVEN AFTER OXIDATION! Important: This does not make me look like a ghost or like some other foundation where it is way too fair/white. *I emphasis a lot on my overall skin color, not only my face. I can't accept it if my face looks a few tone fairer than my neck or other parts of my body. No problem of it drowning into wrinkles or fine lines, literally blurs red spots/lines/pores from a few meter's visibility. Hello, NOTHING can cover a bad skin from a near sight except photoshop. or Meitu.
Plus, it has a SPF 50+ PA+++ where you can ditch your normal sunscreen and straight go for the cushion.
It is also easy to be removed by micellar water. I'm currently using Caudalie's micellar cleansing water and it's the best cleansing water I have used so far.
The packaging is simple. Whole set comes with a ordinary white plastic case with mirror attached, faint purple puff and a refillable cushion foundation. One thing I would like to praise is the netting of the cushion foundation where it controls the amount of the foundation from each press. This ensure the right amount of foundation to be obtain from the sponge to prevent from taking too much of product.
It accentuates the flakiness and made it worse that you would want to take everything off. ITS REALLY THAT BAD. Go light on broken skin too such as freshly popped pimple as the skin surface is not smooth and this foundation will get tucked around the wound and make your wounded skin obvious.
CAUTION: DO NOT RE-APPLY THE FOUNDATION during mid-day or after you are done with your make-up before heading out IF YOU HAVE FLAKY SKIN. ABORT MISSION! I repeat, ABORT!!! . What I did my best to fix was lightly mist thermal spring water to freshen up instead of applying another layer of foundation.
There was once my skin was so dry that it turned flaky during mid-day and I went to apply another layer of foundation (trying to rescue and cover up the flakiness) and it turned out to be the worst decision ever. It was DISASTROUS. Everyone can almost see my nose peeling from a mile away (OK, I exaggerated a bit but seriously, it was so bad that I wanted to head home instead of watching Zootopia)
So what I did to counter the 'flaky problem' is do mask before and after make-up! I apply heavier mask like cotton/silk/hydrogel an hour before putting on make-up and a lighter mask such as gel sleeping mask after taking off make-up.
Sadly, the puff will eventually lose its pretty faint purple color after a few washes but it is still usable. Its just the color but still works fine.
Other than that, I think it is all fine.
How I apply this foundation is by tapping lightly onto my face instead of gliding the puff all over. I apply the first layer evenly onto my whole face and see if I needed another layer or am I good to go. My skin is always naughty that it changes a lot from time to time.
GOOD. What is good you would ask.. Good as in I'll give a score of 4/5!
Other than it does not have any moisturising effect on me, I would say this is a good cushion foundation. Covers while not caking, brightens to the right level. I have a pair of sensitive cheeks and this foundation DID NOT trigger the red alert or irritate my skin.
Would I repurchase? No, as I would want to try out other brands!!!
Although is is quite pricey but being Shu Uemura, I'm OK with it as I always believe there is a difference between cheap and expensive products especially with things that I am putting on my face.
Notes:
-The foundation refill retails at RM140, puff RM20
-It has 6 color tones (which is a lot for a cushion foundation)
-Its available in Shu Uemura stores around Malaysia or from www.Sephora.my
-Read more on Shu Uemura's official website here
**This is my personal experience and might differ from yours. Anyways, remember to try it on before purchasing. Have fun!

Positive:

Negative:
My skin gets oily 😒 and it comes off a bit when I blot it with tissue paper after a few hours of application but it stays better than my previous Kiehl's BB cream. It can't cover my pimples or dark eye circles, I need to put on concealer beforehand. Unfortunately, this cushion foundation is NOT SUITABLE FOR FLAKY SKIN!It accentuates the flakiness and made it worse that you would want to take everything off. ITS REALLY THAT BAD. Go light on broken skin too such as freshly popped pimple as the skin surface is not smooth and this foundation will get tucked around the wound and make your wounded skin obvious.

Usage:
The cushion foundation has a lifespan of 12 months from the first opening as it gets exposed to air and bacteria. You can always replace the cushion and/or puff and reuse the case like all other BB cushions. How I apply this foundation is by tapping lightly onto my face instead of gliding the puff all over. I apply the first layer evenly onto my whole face and see if I needed another layer or am I good to go. My skin is always naughty that it changes a lot from time to time.
