REVIEW: L'Oreal's pure clay mask [Detox mask], UPDATED: [Purity mask]
So, recently I bought L'Oreal's pure clay mask at Chiang Mai's airport very last minute before missing my flight back to KL. I have not heard about this mask before as it is still not available in Malaysia but it captured my attention from the aisle.
The packaging are on-spot for its minimalism and luxurious-feel. Most importantly, its tagged at 280 baht! which is about RM38 for 50ml of clay mask!!! So far, I think this is the best priced clay mask with a reputable brand. I bought the Pure Clay purity mask & Pure clay detox mask without any second thought or review checks π
Eucalyptus : has properties of anti-inflammatory, decongestant, antiseptic and antibacterial. Read more about Eucalyptus here.
L'Oreal claims that skin will appear purified (umm, How does it look to be purified?), healthier, less shiny and excess oil is reduced while pores seem tightened and less visible without over-drying (does this means it could be drying?)
Usage: On clean skin, apply a thin layer all over the face, avoiding lips and eye area. Leave dry for 5-10 minutes, then remove with a wet towel or warm water.
The 3 clays play their roles same as the purity mask while charcoal here acts as a magnet to clean out pores, draw out and capture deep impurities such as dirt, oil and pollutant!
L'Oreal claims that this creamy clay mask detoxifies the skin's surface by cleansing deep into the pores, leaving the skin feeling clean, velvety, re-balanced and looking clarified and beautified without drying it out.
Usage: On clean skin, apply a thin layer all over the face, avoiding lips and eye area. Leave dry for 5-10 minutes, then remove with a wet towel or warm water.
CAN YOU SEE MY WHITEHEADS?!!! They are floating out of my pores!! I was truly over-whelmed by this mask. No squeezing needed to extract whiteheads/blackheads anymore, YAY! But of course, big inflamed pimples indeed needed to be extracted manually (which I think there is no other way to clean a big red zit) but this is good enough from those painful extractions.
- takes some time to remove- easier to remove with warm water/wet towel
- it says '50ml- 10 applications' which I think I can use it beyond 10 applications. But if 50ml is for only 10 applications, wouldn't that be too less for such a tip-top clay mask?
- jar type - less hygenic for some people, I'm good with it
- does not supply spatula, I know you have some -.- use it!
- not available in Malaysia πππππ why??
Overall, I strongly recommend this mask to anyone who wants to get rid of tiny whiteheads with a tight budget! Will definitely repurchase π
- contains strong fragrance- the smell is still here even after some time of removal
- takes some time to remove- easier to remove with warm water/wet towel
The above is my humble review of my newly bought clay mask and it is from my very personal view and may vary from my skin to your skin. Do carry out patch tests before your try it on your face! Enjoy the mask!

Let's start with the purity mask:
It purifies and mattifies oily skin with 3 type of clay (which is the Koalin, montmorillonite and ghassoul) + Eucalyptus.
Kaolin : highly effective natural clay that absorbs impurities and excess sebum deeply from the skin
Montmorillonite: rich in minerals and helps to eliminate imperfections (I do not actually what is this)
Ghassoul : a type of clay that is highly concentrated with minerals renowned to clarify complexion (yes, I have a deep pore cleanser from Japan that contains ghassoul too, and it worked!)
Eucalyptus : has properties of anti-inflammatory, decongestant, antiseptic and antibacterial. Read more about Eucalyptus here.

Detox mask:
It is to detoxify and clarify dull and tired-looking complexion with the same 3 type of clay (Koalin, montmorillonite and ghassoul) + Charcoal. Hence, its is a black mask! The 3 clays play their roles same as the purity mask while charcoal here acts as a magnet to clean out pores, draw out and capture deep impurities such as dirt, oil and pollutant!

My verdict:
I'm sorry peeps! I only tried the black mask which is the detox mask and I would say it is SURPRISING. At first, I thought it would be like a normal mask where you need to use it constantly to see its effect but NO. This mask outdone itself from the first try and you will see why I say so in the below picture.

I am not sure that if this mask is supposed to have a tingling sensation but I do experience it on my cheeks when I firstly apply but the feeling went off in a minute's time. Or maybe because of my sensitive cheeks area but it did not irritate or cause any discomfort to my skin other than the mild tinglings.
Pros
- true in it's claim- "detoxifies the skin's surface by cleansing deep into the pores, leaving the skin feeling clean, velvety, re-balanced and looking clarified and beautified without drying it out."
- easy to apply - glides on smoothly
- cleanses deeply into pores
- CHEAP
- not drying
- sensitive skin approved!
- lovely packagingCons
- contains fragrance- takes some time to remove- easier to remove with warm water/wet towel

UPDATE: I have tried the [Purity mask] aka green mask and it works wonder too!

Whiteheads are also floating out of my large pores when I use this mask. Be informed that huge zits or closed comedones/ papules (inflamed pores that contains puss deep in the pore) will not surface from using this mask. Check out this website to know the names for each type of pimples/zits.
As I have talked about the ingredients and stuff above, lets dive straight to me verdict of this green green clay mask:
It is actually very similar to the detox mask (black mask) except that it is different in color and smell. However, I do find the black one more drying being compared to the green one. The consistency has very slight difference as black one is just a little bit thicker. Both takes time to come off the skin. I used hot towel to remove them and it still took me some time to get every bit off.
The fragrance is still strong for the green mask but it is okay for my sensitive skin.
It does give me skin slight tingling feeling like the black mask did but did not make my face red or itchy after removal.
Basically, the green mask delivers almost the same results as the black one.
Pros
- Skin feels clean & super SOFT after every usage
- easy to apply - glides on smoothly
- easy to apply - glides on smoothly
- cleanses deeply into pores
- CHEAP
- more moisturising compared to the black mask
- sensitive skin approved!
- lovely packagingCons
- the cons are the same as the black ones too- contains strong fragrance- the smell is still here even after some time of removal
- takes some time to remove- easier to remove with warm water/wet towel
